Relining, crown rebuilds, and masonry work need a look at the structure first, so those come back as a range plus a visit slot.
Your ZIP code, what the appliance is (open masonry fireplace, insert, wood stove, gas log set, oil or gas furnace flue), roughly when it was last serviced, and whether you have noticed smoke spillage, odour, staining, or a draft problem. Photos of the fireplace opening and the chimney from the yard are genuinely useful and often let us skip a step.
The written quote is what you pay for the work described. If we open the system and find something that was not in the description, a hidden second flue, Stage 3 glazed creosote, a cracked liner tile, we stop, show you, and give a revised price before continuing. Nothing gets added to the invoice that you did not approve on site.
